What Are You Still Carrying That Was Never Yours?

Gene Key 32, ancestral healing, and learning to honor the past without repeating it.

What if honoring our ancestors includes living with greater freedom than they were able to experience?

I've been sitting with this question as we move through Gene Key 32, and it has opened up so many layers of reflection around family, legacy, healing, and what we choose to carry forward.

Think about how much of your life has been shaped by the people who came before you. Their beliefs about money, relationships, security, success, survival, and what it means to live a good life. Some of those beliefs have supported you, while others may have quietly influenced decisions you didn't even realize you were making.

We inherit more than family traditions and physical characteristics. We inherit stories about sacrifice, belonging, responsibility, and what is possible for us. And somewhere along the way, we can begin confusing loyalty to our past with responsibility for carrying it forward, personally and generationally.

But what if we could honor the people and generations that shaped us without repeating their struggles?

What Are We Choosing to Preserve from Love?

This has been one of my biggest contemplations around Gene Key 32, which moves from Failure to Preservation to Veneration.

I've been reflecting on how much of our fear of failure is connected to inherited beliefs about survival, security, and what previous generations considered successful. Sometimes we continue preserving things simply because they're familiar. A family belief, a relationship dynamic, a career path, an identity, or an expectation about who we're supposed to be.

Not necessarily because these things are aligned with who we are becoming, but because letting them go can feel like failure. And yet, what if releasing them is actually part of our evolution?

Preservation isn't about keeping everything exactly as it was. It's about recognizing what has value, what supports life, and what deserves to evolve.

We can preserve the wisdom, creativity, resilience, traditions, and love that have been passed down through generations without continuing the fear, scarcity, silence, or sacrifice that may have accompanied them.

We can appreciate what our ancestors survived while recognizing that our lives don't have to look like theirs.

For some of us, this means choosing a different relationship with work, money, family, or success. For others, it means finding our voices, establishing boundaries, honoring our bodies, or finally allowing ourselves to pursue a life that previous generations may not have had the freedom to experience.

And sometimes it means recognizing that the patterns we've spent years trying to heal are no longer the patterns we have to live from.

When Healing Becomes Integration

Something I've been recognizing in my own journey is that there comes a point when healing begins to shift into integration.

We've spent years studying ourselves, recognizing patterns, exploring our shadows, understanding our conditioning, and learning how our experiences shaped us. But eventually, we have to begin living what we've learned.

This is where self-trust becomes so important. It's one thing to recognize a pattern. It's another to respond differently when that pattern appears again.

Sometimes an old experience or familiar emotion returns, and we immediately wonder whether we're moving backward. But what if we're simply being given an opportunity to recognize how much we've changed?

Maybe the situation looks familiar, but our relationship with it is completely different. We have more awareness, more discernment, different boundaries, and a deeper relationship with our intuition.

And suddenly, we realize we're no longer the person who originally experienced that pattern. We're making new choices.

This is something I've been experiencing in my own life recently. After years of studying psychology, astrology, Human Design, Gene Keys, and exploring my own healing, I'm recognizing how much of that knowledge has become part of how I naturally live.

I'm not constantly searching for another answer or another tool to tell me what to do. I'm learning to trust what I already know and recognize when something feels aligned.

And that changes everything.

Our Legacy Is More Than Our Lineage

As someone who was adopted, my relationship with ancestry has always had multiple layers. There are the families and people who raised me, the biological lines I come from, and the spiritual connections I've experienced throughout my life.

I've explored these relationships through psychology, art therapy, astrology, Human Design, Gene Keys, intuition, and my own healing work.

One of the things I've come to understand is that legacy isn't limited to biology. It's also what we create, how we live, the relationships we nurture, the wisdom we share, and the experiences we make possible for others.

We don't have to have biological children to contribute to the evolution of future generations. We can create through our work, our art, our communities, our relationships, and the way we care for the Earth.

Our legacy can be the freedom we give ourselves to live differently.

And perhaps part of honoring our ancestors is allowing ourselves to experience the things they couldn't, whether that means more freedom, creativity, self-expression, love, or simply the ability to choose how we want to live.

Learning to Live in Alignment

My recent move to Oregon has brought this into focus in ways I couldn't have anticipated.

Getting here was challenging. There were moments of uncertainty, financial strain, and not knowing exactly how everything would unfold. But I kept following the pull, even when I couldn't see how all the pieces would come together.

Now I'm living on an orchard in Hood River, surrounded by nature, with Mount Hood and Mount Adams nearby.

I've been connecting with the land, making apple butter from the orchard, watching the seasons change, and recognizing how much this experience is connected to the vision I've carried for years.

A vision of becoming a land steward and creating spaces where people can reconnect with themselves, nature, creativity, and community. Bringing Everyday Illumination into physical form through retreats, immersive experiences, and authentic connection.

What I'm realizing is that all the experiences I once questioned have contributed to this vision. The relationships, the moves, the endings, the uncertainty, the creative projects, and the years of healing and studying have all become part of what I'm creating now.

I don't see those experiences as failures anymore. I see them as part of what I've been learning, gathering, and integrating along the way.

And this is where Gene Key 32 has felt especially meaningful to me. What am I choosing to preserve from everything I've experienced? What wisdom, gifts, relationships, and experiences deserve to move forward with me?

And what am I finally ready to leave behind?

What If This Is What Freedom Looks Like?

Maybe our greatest contribution to our ancestral lines isn't carrying everything they couldn't resolve. Maybe it's recognizing what they gave us, honoring what they survived, and allowing ourselves to create something different.

A life with more freedom, creativity, authentic relationships, and connection to our bodies, intuition, and the natural world. A life that reflects who we actually are rather than who we've been conditioned to become.

And maybe that's how we begin creating a different future, individually and collectively. Not by rejecting the past, but by choosing consciously what deserves to continue.

I think this is where the deeper meaning of veneration comes in for me. Honoring something doesn't mean we have to keep it exactly as it was. Sometimes the greatest expression of respect is allowing what we've inherited to evolve into something more beautiful.

What are you preserving out of love, and what are you holding onto out of fear?

What if honoring your ancestors includes living with greater freedom than they were able to experience?
