What if the entire purpose of our incarnation is to live life fully alive, embracing everything it means to be human?
I've been contemplating this question through Gene Key 28, which moves from the Shadow of Purposelessness through the Gift of Totality and ultimately into the Siddhi of Immortality. And the more I explore it, the more I realize how much of our lives we spend searching for purpose, trying to survive, succeed, or heal, anticipating what might happen or go wrong, and believing there's somewhere else we need to arrive before we can fully live. But what if we've misunderstood the assignment?
What if we came here to bring all of our experiences into harmony, remember our wholeness, and consciously participate in creating the world we deeply desire?
I've always believed that this human life is about relationship, including our relationship with ourselves, each other, the land, and the natural world we're inherently part of. I've always known there had to be more to this experience than simply surviving, succeeding, and trying to figure it all out.
Gene Key 28: Purposelessness → Totality (Living Fully) → Immortality
Purposelessness: The Fear Beneath the Search
The Shadow of Gene Key 28 is Purposelessness, and beneath it lives one of our deepest human fears: that our lives might be meaningless.
We search for significance and a sense of ourselves through relationships, careers, spiritual practices, accomplishments, and identities. We want to know why we're here, what we're supposed to do, and, as we become more conscious, whether we're fulfilling the purpose our soul came here to experience.
Sometimes that search becomes another way of avoiding life itself.
We often become so focused on understanding our purpose that we forget to participate in the experiences unfolding right in front of us. We hold back because we're afraid of loss, rejection, failure, or making the wrong choice. We cling to familiar patterns because uncertainty feels more threatening than the discomfort we already know.
And sometimes we mistake the familiarity of an old experience for evidence that we're destined to repeat it.
Recently, experiences with my animals brought me face-to-face with memories of previous losses. I recognized the familiar circumstances, emotions, and fears, but something felt different this time. Rather than bracing for another painful cycle, I began experiencing it as an opportunity to release an old timeline.
The distinction was profound. I could feel the old timeline floating further away as I chose not to attach to it. I was being invited to recognize whether I was still carrying the past and whether I was ready to experience something different.
What if remembering allows us to recognize how far we've come and become free to experience something different?
Totality: The Courage to Be Fully Alive
The Gift of Gene Key 28 is Totality.
Totality is about embracing the entire spectrum of the human experience and allowing ourselves to participate fully, even when fear, uncertainty, or discomfort arises. It includes the joy and grief, love and loss, creation and destruction, beginnings and endings, and the light and shadow that all belong to life.
For years, I've been exploring what it means to heal, reclaim my power, and trust my intuition. I've experienced profound endings, periods of uncertainty, and moments when nearly everything I thought defined my life dissolved. And then, with my experiences in Oregon, something shifted. I have become the eye of the storm, the energy that endures and rises.
I recently remembered a vision I experienced years ago while attending graduate school. We were doing a meditation after floods in the Boulder area in 2013. In the vision, I was standing completely still in the center of a rushing river. Then an enormous current of water and energy rushed toward me. Everything was rushing around me and being swept away, but I remained standing tall, without armor, struggle, or any attempt to stop what was coming. I was simply standing in my power.
At the time, I couldn't fully understand what I was experiencing. But now, after years of evolving and changing, that image has returned to remind me that I can stand in my power without controlling the river, holding everything together, or carrying everything that has happened to me.
I AM. And perhaps that's what Totality has been inviting me to recognize all along.
Experiencing this energy means diving into the human experience without fear and welcoming all of it, remembering that nothing essential is missing from us. Totality is choosing to live from that recognition. As Noah Kahan sings, “honey are you good at staying still?” I hear it as a question about whether I'm afraid of standing still, and my answer is that I am no longer afraid.
The Mountain Is You
Living near Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams has deepened my relationship with the natural world in ways I never anticipated. I’ve spent time connecting with their spirits, as well as the trees, the elements, and the incredible intelligence I experience in nature.
For a long time, I approached these experiences with reverence for something that felt much larger than myself. And then, in one moment, that all changed.
I heard Mt. Hood say, “Your soul could have chosen to stand with us.”
I already understood that I wasn’t separate from nature. But what was new was the realization that something as magnificent as Mt. Hood, something that takes my breath away every time I see it and feels immense and powerful next to my human form, could be asking me to see myself as an equal participant in this life, in this reality, and as part of the same living whole. To feel powerful enough to be a mountain.
And around that moment, the song The Mountain Is You by Chance Peña played in the background of my mind. That song had been returning to me throughout the week.
I realized how much of my life had been spent climbing mountains, carrying mountains on my back, or looking toward something outside myself for the strength and wisdom I believed I needed. I began to recognize that she was inviting me to see my own power.
I felt that same strength I experienced standing in the river in my vision, walking out of the riptide in Costa Rica, and beneath the Douglas firs I prayed under during my first months in Oregon. And now, I felt myself rise to the size of Garsta, my Mt. Hood, and Pahto, Mt. Adams. I stood in between them as a mountain myself.
The more connected I feel to myself, the more deeply I recognize my relationship with everything around me. The mountain, the river, the trees, the animals, the spirits of plants, and the beings who cross our paths all participate in the experience of life. And so do we.
We are already a part of creation, participating in the same living whole.
Immortality: Beyond the Fear of Ending
The Siddhi of Gene Key 28 is Immortality.
Within the mystical teachings of Gene Keys, Immortality points toward a realization that transcends our usual identification with the separate self and its fear of death. I've been contemplating this through the idea of convergence and zero point.
What if this incarnation offers an opportunity to bring the different aspects of ourselves, including our multidimensional and soul experiences, into greater harmony?
This includes soul patterns, ancestral conditioning, our physical bodies, emotional and mental experiences, energetic awareness, masculine and feminine qualities, shadow and light, and our relationship with the collective. Integration may be the process of recognizing how all of these belong to one interconnected experience.
I've been exploring zero point as a spiritual metaphor for equilibrium, a center where opposing forces can come into harmony and we can remain centered within the movement of life, just like the vision of the river.
And perhaps the deepest realization is that we can explore our connection to something eternal while remaining fully present in our physical lives.
Awakening is the remembering. Integration is the convergence. Zero point is the equilibrium. New Earth is the creation.
Making New Earth Practical: The Magic of Exchange
Toward the end of recording Episode 03 of Everyday Illumination, my contemplation moved into something I hadn't anticipated. If we're here to consciously participate in creation, how do we make that practical?
What does New Earth actually look like in our relationships, communities, work, and everyday exchanges?
I began thinking about water, electricity, currency, and the idea of current. Water circulates through the landscape, electrical current moves through a circuit, and money circulates through economies. Within our communities, we exchange resources, knowledge, creativity, care, time, and support. These processes share an important principle: movement and exchange make things possible. I kept coming back to the language of water, the current, and the way everything flows.
It brought me to a realization…
What if we are the current-cy? What if we are the new way of exchanging value?
What if we began changing our relationship with wealth, contribution, and receiving?
For so long, many of our systems have encouraged competition, accumulation, scarcity, and the belief that our value is determined by how much we produce or possess, or by how much others can possess or control us.
But what if we began recognizing wealth through a more expansive lens?
The person who grows food contributes something essential, while the person who creates art offers something different. The person who provides shelter, shares wisdom, offers healing, builds something useful, or supports a neighbor contributes to the well-being of the larger community.
And each person also receives. The more we trust and release fear, the more we allow ourselves to participate in the exchange, knowing that what we give may return through the larger field and flow, beyond a direct 1:1 exchange.
This is especially important because giving without receiving eventually becomes depletion. True reciprocity requires movement in both directions.
I've been experiencing small examples of this in my own life, through neighbors helping with my animals, sharing resources, supporting one another, and discovering that meaningful exchange can happen through many forms of contribution, including those beyond a financial transaction.
At the same time, money remains a practical resource that allows us to meet our needs and sustain our contributions. The question becomes how we create systems and relationships where value can circulate in ways that support everyone involved.
Perhaps creating New Earth begins with how we choose to participate in the world we already inhabit.
From Individual Purpose to Collective Creation
This is where Gene Key 28 begins to connect with the next contemplation, Gene Key 44: Interference → Teamwork → Synarchy.
Totality invites us to become fully present within our individual lives, while Teamwork asks what becomes possible when we bring our unique gifts into relationship with one another.
What if our purpose also includes what becomes possible through our relationships, our creativity, our contributions, soul contracts, and the ways we support one another?
I've spent much of my life searching for answers, learning different systems, studying consciousness, and exploring the many layers of what it means to be human.
And now, as I approach a new chapter, I'm becoming increasingly interested in living what I've already discovered. I'm trusting my intuition, expressing my creativity, receiving support, sharing my gifts, connecting with the land, building meaningful relationships, and allowing myself to be seen, heard, experienced, and loved. I want to fully participate in life as it unfolds, even as I continue learning and evolving.
Maybe our purpose is revealed through the totality of how we choose to live.
And perhaps that's the invitation of Gene Key 28: to recognize the extraordinary possibility of being fully alive right now and allow ourselves to experience the meaning that unfolds through our participation.
A Reflection for You
