Gene Key 32: The Wisdom We Keep and the Patterns We Release

What if honoring our ancestors includes living with greater freedom than they were able to experience?

Failure → Preservation → Veneration

This is one of the deeper contemplations of Gene Key 32, which moves through the Shadow of Failure, the Gift of Preservation, and the Siddhi of Veneration. It's an invitation to explore our relationship with the past, the fear of losing what we've built, and the wisdom of recognizing what is truly worth carrying forward.

The question I've been sitting with is simple: What are we preserving out of love, and what are we holding onto out of fear?

What if honoring our ancestors includes living with greater freedom than they were able to experience?

We can honor our ancestors and recognize their struggles without feeling obligated to repeat them.

The Shadow of Failure: What Are We Afraid of Losing?

Failure is an interesting word because so much of what we consider failure comes from expectations we've inherited.

We grow up surrounded by ideas about what success should look like. Education, careers, relationships, financial security, family, and the milestones we're supposed to reach by a certain age. Some of these expectations come directly from our families. Others are woven into the cultures, communities, and generations that shaped us.

But how many of those expectations actually belong to us?

Gene Key 32 invites us to examine our fear of failure, particularly when that fear is connected to survival, security, and the possibility of losing something we've worked hard to create.

Sometimes we stay with what is familiar because we've invested so much in it. We continue carrying responsibilities, relationships, identities, or beliefs because releasing them might mean admitting that something has changed.

And sometimes what we call failure is simply the ending of something that has served its purpose.

Looking back at my own life, I can see how many times I've had to leave behind something I once believed was essential to my future. My nonprofit art studio in Denver, different versions of my work, relationships, homes, and even the ways I understood myself.

At the time, I couldn't always see what those experiences were preparing me for. I only knew that something was changing and I had to decide what came next.

Today, I can recognize the wisdom, skills, relationships, and experiences that came from those chapters without needing to recreate them.

The Gift of Preservation: Choosing What Matters

Preservation is often associated with keeping things exactly as they are. But through the lens of Gene Key 32, I see something more discerning.

We don't have to preserve everything to honor what came before us.

Nature demonstrates this beautifully. Every autumn, the trees release their leaves. The orchards are harvested, the seasons change, and the landscape begins preparing for another cycle. What is essential continues, even as the outer expression changes.

Living among the orchards in Hood River has given me a new appreciation for these cycles. I've been making apple butter, bread, and cider from the harvest, finding different ways to use what the trees have provided.

There is something deeply satisfying about recognizing the value in what is already available and creating something new from it.

I think our lives work this way, too.

We gather experiences, relationships, knowledge, and wisdom throughout our lives. Some things are meant to stay with us. Others teach us what we need to know before we release them.

The Gift of Preservation asks us to recognize the difference.

What knowledge is worth passing forward? Which relationships and traditions nourish us? What have our experiences taught us that we can carry into the next chapter?

And what have we been preserving simply because we're afraid of what might happen if we let go?

Ancestral Wisdom: Honoring Without Repeating

My relationship with ancestry has been an important part of my own journey, especially as someone who was adopted and later searched for my birth family.

Exploring where I came from opened questions about identity, belonging, inherited patterns, and the stories that existed long before I arrived.

There is something powerful about recognizing that our lives are connected to generations of people who experienced their own challenges, opportunities, limitations, and dreams.

Some of what we inherit is beautiful. Creativity, resilience, resourcefulness, traditions, and ways of caring for one another.

Other patterns may have developed through fear, scarcity, trauma, or the need to survive circumstances that no longer exist in our lives.

We can respect why those patterns developed without continuing to organize our lives around them.

For me, this is an important distinction in ancestral healing.

We can recognize the sacrifices of previous generations while allowing ourselves to experience possibilities they may never have had access to.

We can appreciate the strength it took for someone to survive without believing that our own lives must be defined by struggle.

And we can love our families while making different choices.

Perhaps one of the greatest ways to honor those who came before us is to allow their wisdom to support a life with greater freedom.

Veneration: A Deeper Relationship With Life

The highest expression of Gene Key 32 is Veneration.

Veneration speaks to reverence, a deep respect for life and the wisdom that moves through generations, nature, and our experiences.

I think there is a beautiful relationship between veneration and our ability to look back without needing to judge every experience as a success or failure.

What if we could appreciate the people we once were, even when we made choices we wouldn't make today?

What if we could honor a relationship that ended, a career that changed, or a dream that evolved?

What if the value of an experience wasn't determined solely by whether it lasted?

When I think about the different places I've lived, the work I've created, and the experiences that have brought me here, I see a thread connecting them.

Becoming an art therapist, creating community spaces, discovering astrology, Human Design, and Gene Keys, spending time in Costa Rica, and eventually finding my way to Oregon.

Each chapter has contributed something to the way I understand myself and the work I do today.

I don't need to return to those earlier versions of my life to appreciate what they gave me.

And I don't need to know exactly how the next chapter will unfold to recognize the value of everything that has brought me here.

What Are You Choosing to Carry Forward?

As we move through the energy of Gene Key 32, I invite you to consider your own relationship with preservation.

Where are you continuing something because it genuinely matters to you? Where might fear of failure, disappointing others, or losing security be influencing your choices?

Think about your family history, your relationships, your work, and the different versions of yourself you've experienced.

What wisdom has endured?

What are you grateful to have learned?

And what are you ready to stop carrying?

There is room to honor the past while creating something different for the future.

Maybe preservation isn't about holding on to everything we've known. Maybe it's about recognizing what is valuable enough to bring with us, allowing the rest to return to the earth, and trusting ourselves to create from what remains.

We can honor where we came from without needing to remain who we were.
